Pet Vaccinations in Miami, Palm Beach, and Tampa Bay
Your pet is a part of your family, and as so, he or she should get proper medical care just like you and your other human family members would. Your furry companion needs vaccinations to keep them from contracting certain diseases that cats and dogs often contract. Some of these diseases can make your pet very ill or even lead to death. MVS Pet Care strives to provide the local pet community with quality veterinary care and a proper vaccination schedule is an essential component of our house call service.
If your new pet is a puppy, he or she will need a rabies vaccine at about 16 weeks old, which is the same for a new adult dog that is welcomed into your household. You may be able to change to a three-year vaccine, where you won't need a booster shot each year. Puppies need three doses of distemper, parvovirus and adenovirus shots, commonly called puppy shots, between 6 and 16 weeks old and adult dogs need two doses that are given three to four weeks apart. Adult dogs need the same three core vaccines of two doses that are spaced three to four weeks apart. Parainfluenza shots are given to puppies between six and eight weeks old and then every three to four weeks until they are 12 to 14 weeks old. Adult dogs only need one dose of this vaccine. These are the main core vaccines for canines although you may need other types depending on your dog's situation.
Kittens and cats have four core vaccinations that will be needed to remain healthy. Rabies shots are given to kittens as early as three months old with a booster each year and cats over 16 weeks old will need two doses that are spaced 12 months apart. Feline distemper, feline herpesvirus, and calicivirus vaccines are given to kittens as early as six weeks old and then every three to four weeks until they reach 16 weeks. Adult cats over 16 weeks old require two doses of these core vaccines spaced three to four weeks apart.
